Road accident claims 8 lives in Anambra

A tragic road accident occurred on Saturday in Umunya, Odumodu Junction, in Oyi Local Government area of Anambra State, resulting in the death of at least eight passengers.

The accident involved two trailer trucks, a Jetta Sienna bus, and a black Toyota car, all of which sustained significant damage. The cause of the accident was attributed to overspeeding.

According to an eyewitness, Mr Kenechukwu, who was a motorcycle rider at the scene, one of the trucks lost its brakes while travelling from Onitsha to Enugu.

He recounted, “I was waiting for a passenger when I suddenly saw a trailer coming from Onitsha at high speed. As it approached, the driver couldn’t control the brakes, leading to a collision with an oncoming trailer and a bus filled with passengers.”

One of the survivors, too shaken to speak, mentioned that their vehicle was en route to Enugu when they heard a loud crash. She recalled seeing blood, injured passengers, and scattered luggage all around.

Injured passengers were reportedly transported to a hospital, while the deceased individuals were taken to an undisclosed hospital morgue.
