Release formula for selecting 40 million beneficiaries of N5k transport grant, Jigawa PDP chair tells FG

THE Chairman, Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Babandi Ibrahim, has called on President Buhari to give details on the formula for the selection of the about 40 million people who will benefit from the Federal Government N5,000 transport grant.

The PDP chairman who made the call while speaking to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital at the Weekly Media Engagement Forum said “the president should also tell Nigerians the process through which the fare (grant) will reach the targeted people.”

Recall that the government said it gesture will span between six months and one year after the government ends fuel subsidy in mid-2022.

But Ibrahim explained that the policy is not ideal “and will not in any way make any relief on the effect would cause by the fuel subsidy removal to the common man.

“The total fuel subsidy removal will also throw Nigerians and common man into more difficulties of life, in addition to the current sufferings of the high price of foodstuff, social amenities and insecurity.”

He, therefore, called on the president to suspend the plan to remove fuel subsidy and come up with more policies and programmes that will improve the living standards of the people through the provision of job opportunities.

The chairman further stated that his party has mapped out good plans to send the All Progressive Congress (APC) out of government in the state in 2023.

Ibrahim said that “Jigawa and Nigerian citizens have already taken a stand of dumping APC. PDP has completed a plan to return to power in 2023 God willing.

“APC has failed Jigawa people and Nigeria. One can imagine presently the prices of food are going higher despite the fact that we are in the season of harvest. The prices of fertilizers are getting higher than what it used to be in our time.”
