Olakunle Maruf – Sokoto
The political parties participating in the forthcoming governorship and house of assembly elections in Sokoto state have resolved to work together with Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in the state.
The chairman of All Progressive Congress(APC) in the state, Isa Sadiq Acida, stated this in his remarks at the INEC office, Sokoto on Thursday.
Acida, while briefing the INEC national commissioner, Major General Modibo Alkali, who was assigned to assist the Administrative secretary of the commission in the state, Hauwa Kangiwa, said the leaders of the party took a decision after meeting with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, on Wednesday.
He revealed that following the meeting held at Sultan’s palace, all the political party chairmen in the state have resolved to engage in a crisis-free electioneering process.
“We have decided to sign a peace pact here at the INEC office in which we will call on all our supporters to maintain peace throughout the electioneering period.
“We are calling on anyone who either by his words or actions contributed to any crisis in the state to be ready to face the consequences.
“We want security agents to be alive to their responsibilities by ensuring everyone involved in illegal acts should be dealt with according to the law,” he added.
