The Rivers State Command of the Nigerian Police has launched a manhunt for the armed men who attacked and killed an inspector of police at the Botokiri Division of the state capital Port Harcourt.
Superintendent of Police Nnamdi Omoni who announced the manhunt said that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan had ordered a serious manhunt for the perpetrators, “with the marching order to all the Tactical Units to identify and apprehend them without delay.”
He declared that the area has therefore come under close monitoring.
Unknown gunmen were reported to have killed the police officer attached to Borokiri Police Divisional headquarters in Port Harcourt City Local government area of Rivers State.
It was also gathered that two other officers were seriously injured during the attack which took place at Captain Amangala axis of the town.
A resident who gave his name as Sonny told our correspondent that the attack was carried out by some cultists who have been terrorising the area.
He said that the Sunday night attack was carried out by about 17 armed cultists who the source added took away guns belonging to the police.
“I can confirm the unfortunate and mindless attack last night on our Personnel from Borikiri Division, posted on a Pin-Down Point at Capt Amangala Junction, Borikiri Port Harcourt,” Omoni stated.
He explained that the police victims were on duty when unknown gunmen launched a surprise attack on them, leading to the death of an Inspector of Police, while others sustained gunshot wounds.
“The Police Patrol Vehicle belonging to the Team was riddled with bullet holes. The Corpse of the late Inspector has been evacuated and deposited in Mortuary for Autopsy,” he added.
