Police apprehend 44 suspects for armed robbery, thuggery, others in Niger

The Police in Niger State have confirmed the arrest and detention of 44 suspected notorious criminals, who would soon be charged with armed robbery, thuggery and being in possession of dangerous weapons, as soon as the investigation was concluded.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)of the State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun stated this in a statement issued and made available to Journalists on Tuesday in Minna, adding that the arrest of the suspected criminals was against the backdrops of the recently reported cases of violent clashes amongst some warring factions of some suspected miscreants, who were charged with armed robbery, and pockets of thuggery, tricycle robberies in parts of Minna metropolis and its environs and in some troubled spots like the Stadium Junction, Limawa, Anguwan-Daji, Bosso road, Flamingo junction, Morris junction, and Barkin-Sale among others.

The statement stated further that the suspects were always causing public unrest, inflicting serious injuries on their victims and dispossessing unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables, highlighting further that during the raid, the following notorious suspects were arrested with different types of dangerous weapons.

They were identified as, Abdullahi Ibrahim (38 yrs), Abdullahi Isah (31yrs), Jibrin Musa (30yrs), Moh’d Sani (30yrs), Samaila Salisu (35yrs), Bashir Mukhtar (28yrs), Isah Moh’d (35yrs), Kabiru Dahiru (23yrs)and Isah Sidi (15yrs).

Others according to the statement are Musa Abubakar (18yrs), Ahmadu Ibrahim (20yrs), Aliyu Ibrahim (17yrs), Musa Ishaq (20yrs), Sadiq Yau (16yrs), Abdullahi Hassan (20yrs), and Alhassan Adamu (16yrs), all of Limawa community.

The statement also mentioned one Abdullahi Adamu (20yrs), Musa Aliyu (15yrs), Aliyu Shafiu (18yrs), Aminu Bello (18yrs), Aminu Umar (18yrs), Nafson Awal (18yrs), Musa Lawal (20yrs), -Ismail Ibrahim (25yrs), Aminu Hassan (18yrs), Alhassan Moh’d (15yrs), Abubakar Tanko (26yrs), Tasiu Usman (17yrs), Immurana Yahaya (15yrs) and Mustapha Aliyu (18yrs), all of Angwan-Daji.

Some of the suspects include Adamu Moh’d (17yrs), Moh’d Ibrahim (19yrs0, Ahmed Musa (20yrs), Zarideen Basiru (21yrs), Aminu Bala (16yrs), Hassan Yusuf (20yrs), and Tasiu Basiru (20yrs), all of Kasuwan- Gwari, while the other suspects from Anguwan Sarkin area and Gwadabe includes: Nafiu Moh’d (22yrs), Jamilu Saidu (20yrs), Saqiru Attahiru (25yrs), all of Anguwan-Sarkin and Gwadebe.

The Image Maker of the State Police Command said, “Consequently, in a bid to curtail this recent trend and menace, on 13/03/2023 at about 2350hrs, the Command mobilized its tactical teams comprising of Operations Department, CTU, Anti-kidnapping unit, tactical support team, Area Command team, and various patrol units in the metro and vigilante members led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations DCP Ali Hayatu Kaigama conducted house to house raid sting operation within the areas of Limawa, Angwan-Daji, Paida, Gwadebe, Anguwan-Sarki, Ogbomosho road, Kasuwan-Gwari, and its environs within Minna metropolis.

The statement reads in parts, “During the raid, the aforementioned suspected criminal elements s following notorious suspects were arrested with different types of dangerous weapons

“Others who were arrested at different locations while on patrol and even at the scene by ‘A’ Div patrol team between 10th-12th/03/2023 are: Abubakar Umar 25yrs of Paida, Yahaya Musa 20yrs, Abdulrahman Sani 15yrs and Abdulkarim Habibu 20yrs, all of Angwan-Daji” he further added.

The PPRO said, “Some of the dangerous weapons recovered from the suspects include; eleven cutlasses, four scissors, five knives, four swords, one garotte, five sticks, eight phones(handsets) three shisha pipes/pots, a big saw, scale, an iron bar, a bottle containing illicit drugs, lighter, screwdriver, bunch of keys, and ATM cards.”

He, however, assured that the suspects have been transferred to State Criminals Investigations Department (SCID)for discreet investigation adding that they will be arraigned in court for prosecution with capital offence charges.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Ogundele J. Ayodeji, has expressed satisfaction with the operation, and directed that the operation will be a continuous exercise towards ensuring that Minna metropolis is rid of unguarded elements disrupting the peace of the metro, as he reiterated that enough is enough.

The Police boss thereby expressed appreciation for the cooperation and support of members of the public, just as he assured them of a peaceful atmosphere for their economic activities as adequate security is guaranteed.
