The lawmaker representing Irele/Okitipupa Federal Constituency and a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State, Hon. Jimi Odimayo, has provided a sum of N10 million to 200 vulnerable individuals from the two local governments in his federal constituency.
The lawmaker, who also launched various empowerment programmes valued at over N100 million to support rural dwellers, stated that the distribution of cash is part of his contribution to the federal government’s palliative programme to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
Odimayo mentioned that the gesture was more than just a palliative measure, expressing his desire to enhance the living conditions of the people in Irele and Okitipupa local government areas.
However, the lawmaker distributed the sum of N50,000 each to 200 beneficiaries across the two council areas in his constituency.
Odimayo, who also organised an awareness programme in collaboration with the Institute of Agricultural Research, Samaru, Kaduna State, and Excellent Speed Integrated Services Ltd., assured the people that the dividends of democracy would be brought to their doorsteps.
He said, “In the first instance, I have outlined self-employment programmes for youths, women, and artisans, encompassing various vocations in all the wards of the two local government areas that constitute this Federal Constituency.
“In terms of actual financial palliative, a sum of N50,000 is now being given out to each of the 200 vulnerable residents of the constituency to alleviate their suffering.
“This effort is my way of mitigating the consequences of the fuel subsidy removal by easing the hardship they face. I am committed to fostering a sustainable future for the residents of Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency.
“Moving forward, human empowerment and job creation to engage our unemployed youths will be my top priorities, alongside other development programmes that I have planned not only for Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency but for the whole of Ondo State.”
Odimayo disclosed that he had initiated efforts for the establishment of a Federal College of Agriculture and a Federal Medical College in the constituency. He noted that he recently initiated a bill for the agricultural college, which passed the first reading.
The lawmaker, who is the Chairman of the House Committee on National Population Commission, also assured the entire people of Ondo State of his commitment to their well-being.
He emphasised that, as a federal lawmaker, he had been actively visiting and lobbying various federal agencies to attract development to his home state.
