Olubadan, Alake mourn demise of Akeredolu

The passing of Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has left a profound impact on the nation, drawing heartfelt condolences and tributes from leaders, colleagues, and the community.

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Senator Lekan Balogun, expressed deep sorrow, describing Akeredolu’s death as a significant blow to democracy and political activism.

Oba Balogun, in a condolence message signed by his personal assistant (media), Oladele Ogunsola, noted that it was thought that he would survive the illness that eventually claimed his life as he fought a long battle, but God knows best. “While recuperating in Ibadan, the palace was keeping tabs on his recovery progress.

“An indefatigable politician and legal icon, the governor, popularly called Aketi, was an activist who used both his law profession and politics to fight for the downtrodden.

He left his feet on the sands of time both as a lawyer, attaining the highest professional honour available in the field as well as the headship of its association, the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA).

“In politics, he proved himself an enigma, winning gubernatorial elections on two different occasions, and but for his untimely death, he would have succeeded in governing his Ondo State for two terms of eight years; that’s not a mean achievement,” Oba Balogun added.

The monarch commiserated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), and the good people of Ondo State, urging them to take solace in the good memories left behind by the departed politician.

Olubadan urged the members of the late governor’s family, both immediate and extended, to take heart and thank God for a good life spent by their late icon. “I urge them to be grateful to God for having such a personality as a member of their family.

He might be considered young at 67, but his accomplishments confirm the agelong aphorism that it is not how long, but how well. May the Lord rest his peaceful and beautiful soul.”.

Dr Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, echoed similar sentiments, depicting Akeredolu as an irrepressible fighter and courageous advocate for his people.

In his reaction to the demise of Akeredolu, popularly known as “Aketi,” Alake stated that Ondo State has lost a gem and a quintessential progressive who is always at the forefront of defending his people and fighting for the emancipation of the downtrodden.

“I am deeply shocked by the loss of a brother and friend, and indeed one of the leaders of the progressive movement, the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.”

“Akeredolu carved a niche for himself as a bold and irrepressible defender of the interests of the Ondo people and the Yoruba nation. His voice resonated across the country as a lodestar in the struggle for the entrenchment of true federalism. As State Governor, he made the welfare of the people the focal point of governance. ”

“Nigeria has lost a titan, but we are consoled by the fact that he left an indelible mark in the political establishment. I commiserate with President Bola Tinubu and the good people of Ondo State on this irreparable loss.”
