NUF elects Asumu as president

President, Association of Non-Indigenous Residents of Oyo State (ANIRO), Dr Camilus Asumu, has been elected as president of National Unity Forum (NUF).

Asumu was elected alongside other executive officers by the representatives of the National Unity Forum, the national body of all nonindigenes across the 36 states and Abuja.

The forum, in its rotational meeting held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, recently elected new officers to pilot the affairs of the association in the next five years.

The meeting focused on matters affecting non-indigenes in various states of the federation, especially the high cost of living and the insecurity challenges across the country and how to surmount them.

The President of Imo State non-indigenes, Prince Ralph Adoga, who presided over the election, said it was free and fair, adding that choosing Dr Asumu as their leader was like putting round peg in a round hole.

In his acceptance speech, Dr Asumu was grateful to every member present for finding him worthy of the position as the first president of NUF and promised not to betray the trust and confidence reposed in him.

Asumu, in a statement signed by the National Publicity Relations Officer of the association, Mr Joseph Ogunleye, further promised to use all powers at his disposal to move the association forward.

He advised members to live in unity and be peaceful with their host communities.

Asumu further charged members to be law-abiding and contribute whatever God has given them to uplift the association.
