No govt official would drive imported cars if I were president — Moghalu

Published by

Former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has expressed his stance against government officials driving imported vehicles if he were to be the president of Nigeria.

He emphasised the importance of Nigerian politicians investing in and patronising locally manufactured vehicles instead.

Moghalu conveyed this perspective in a post on his platform, highlighting the need for patriotic leadership and a commitment to reducing the cost of governance.

His statement comes in response to the House of Representatives’ assurance that members of the 10th National Assembly will soon receive vehicles to facilitate their work.

He emphasised that, if in a position of power, he would advocate for government officials to use locally made vehicles, thereby promoting the utilisation of domestic alternatives and supporting the local economy.

If I were President of Nigeria or Governor of a State, no government official will drive a foreign-made vehicle at government expense (procurement) when we have local alternatives

That is one demonstration of patriotic leadership and commitment to cutting the cost of governance

Moghalu was the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2019 general election.
