Niger Police enforces restriction of tricycle, motorcycle operators to avert crimes

Following the recent violence by some youth groups in Minna metropolis leading to infliction of varying degrees of injuries on innocent motorists and pedestrians alike including the destruction of properties estimated at several millions of Naira, commercial tricycle and motorcycle operators in Niger State have been urged to operate between the hours of 6:00 am and 9:00 pm on daily basis henceforth until further notice

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Adamu Usman stated this while addressing Journalists, on Friday, in his office at the state Police Command Headquarters in Minna, adding that this was in strict compliance with the directive of the State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, during an emergency security meeting which took place at the Government House Minna, the aftermath of the violence unleashed on the people by the youth’s restiveness in Minna metropolis and it’s environ recently.

The CP, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Shawulu Dan Mamman, warned that any operator found on the streets beyond this window of operation will be arrested and prosecuted according to law,

In the same vein, he said all pharmacists and chemists operating within the state have been warned to desist from the indiscriminate sale of illicit drugs to their customers in order to safeguard the health of Nigerlites.

The Police Boss maintained that the operation of all unapproved motor parks within Minna metropolis must be stopped forthwith.

He, however, stated that joint security and intelligence-led raids will be reinvigorated to arrest both dealers, sellers and users of illicit drugs to serve as a deterrent to others.

He added that the directive followed consistent unrelenting and criminal breaches of the peace, housebreaking, theft and robberies within Minna metropolis and in the environs by some miscreants, he thereby confirmed a number of arrests made so far by police operatives adding that this will continue until calm was restored in the city.

According to him, “those areas where these crimes are committed, include; Limawa, Angwan Daji, Angwan Sarki, Ogbomosho road and Uphill, in Maitumbi areas respectively.”
