Niger govt sets up committee for inauguration of new administration

Niger State Government has inaugurated a committee constituted ahead of the inauguration of a new administration of Governor- Elect, Hon. Mohammed  Umar Bago and his deputy Comrade Garaba Yakubu.

Secretary to the Government (SSG), Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, stated at the inauguration of the committee, that the aim  was to have a seamless transition ceremony.

He disclosed that the state government inauguration committees and the governor- elect inauguration committees have agreed to collapse their committees into one to work together for smooth handling-over  the mantle of leadership.

“All efforts is geared towards a peaceful and smooth transfer of power from the All Progress Congress (APC) government to another APC government,” he said.

“It is the best step for the outgoing government and the incoming government to work together for a smooth transition so that the incoming administration will quickly settle down,” he said.

He mentioned that the state government inauguration committees were; security and intelligence, venue and inaugural, protocol and accomodation and  inaugural lecture.

Others were publicity and mobilisation, transportation, logistics and special events, dinner and entertainment as well as medical committees.

The SSG, however, disclosed that to have a peaceful and hitch-free inauguration, over 200 miscreants disturbing the peace of the state capital have been arrested.

He said that before the inauguration ceremony, security agencies to tackle activities of  miscreants and thuggery disturbing the peace within the metropolis for people to have a feeling of peace.

In his remarks, Dr Mohammed Santuraki, Chairman of Inauguration Committee for Governor’s-elect, lauded the idea of collapsing the state government inauguration committee and that of the governor-elect into one to work together for seamless handover.

“It is a welcome development because it is  a transition within the same party, transition is very important because it is an occasional change in government,” he said.
