Twenty-one unemployed youths in Kebbi State have commenced a one-day Phase Two orientation and induction course on youth transformation, organised by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
In his address at the opening ceremony of the programme, the State Coordinator of the Scheme in Kebbi State, Mr Ambianto Francis, who stood in for the Director General of NDE, Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, called on the 21 youths participating in the training to pay more attention to the programme, which, according to him, will equip them to become employers of labour.
He pointed out that these twenty-one participants should consider themselves fortunate to be among the few youths chosen from the teeming population of unemployed youths in the state.
“Respect your trainers as you would expect them to respect you. A register shall be opened for your attendance, in which you must achieve 50 per cent attendance.
Failure to meet this 50 per cent requirement will not be beneficial, as no certificate of attendance shall be given to errant trainees.”
Malam Fikpo expressed that another phase of the programme, which is Phase Three, shall be launched because NDE believes in continuous training and skill acquisition for Nigerian youths.
Also in her speech, Hajia Jemila Suleiman from the NDE Headquarters in Abuja, who represented the Director of Training Programmes, urged participants to take the training very seriously throughout its six-month duration.
She emphasised that the training would serve as a stepping stone, noting that after their training, they would be able to become employers of labour in their various communities.
“When you start your own business, people around you will be impressed because you have made an impact towards transforming from unemployed to an employer, which nobody can take away from you,” she said.
The six-month training will cover various skills such as hairdressing, tailoring, shoe and bag making, cosmetology, perfume making, home dressing, and gardening, among others.
