NCoS dismisses two personnel, sanctions 35 others for misconduct

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has dismissed two (2) personnel and sanctioned thirty-five (35) others.

The Service stated that this action was taken as part of efforts to ensure discipline among its personnel and to entrench international correctional best practices.

The Public Relations Officer of NCoS, AD Umar, conveyed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja. He explained that the officers were sanctioned for misconduct ranging from trafficking in contraband, unauthorised absence from duty, stealing, negligence of duty, and criminal conspiracy, as well as aiding and abetting.

He further noted that these offences constitute threats to the security of correctional facilities and could jeopardise public safety and national security.

Umar mentioned that the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, has clarified that the service will continue to reward diligence and exceptional performances. Simultaneously, it will not hesitate to punish erring personnel according to the provisions of existing laws.

Nababa maintained that the service will leave no stone unturned to ensure that ‘bad eggs’ are flushed out of the system.

He reassured Nigerians that the service will continue to perform its statutory mandates with integrity and adhere to ethical standards in line with international best practices.
