Management of Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) says it has organized a security summit aimed at proffering solutions to the recent insecurity challenges bedeviling the institution and its environs.
Prof. Suleiman Bala-Mohammed, Vice Chancellor of the University, made this known at a press briefing held in Keffi local government area of the state on Friday, shortly after a security summit with management team and security stakeholders.
Bala-Mohammed said the security summit was organized to bring all stakeholders together with a view at creating relevant opinions, suggestions and recommendations that may help in managing security and ensuring safety of staff and students living within, outside the campus and by extension, Keffi community.
“Let me assure the general public that submissions arising from this summit would be implemented with relevant agencies,” he said.
He explained that recently, Keffi and its environs had a spark of some level of insecurity which involved some members of the university community, affecting both staff and students of the university hence the summit to proffer new ideas to avert future recurrence.
“Let me also mention that proactively management reported the mentioned security challenges to the visitor of the university, Governor Abdullahi Sule who personally responded through a high-profile security interface with all security agencies.
“He charged them to take responsibility of life and properties in Nasarawa State University and Keffi at large,” he added.
The Vice Chancellor then assured that with submissions from the summit taken into account and previous collaborative efforts with security agencies stepped up, insecurity challenges in the university environs will be efficiently tackled.
Tribune Online earlier reported that recently, some lecturers and students of the university were kidnapped from their homes by unknown persons and later released.
Similarly, a don was kidnaped and later released after several days in captivity.
The kidnappings led to a peaceful protest by University’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch who demanded more efforts to put an end to the spate of kidnappings.
