President of NAFOWA, Mrs Elizabeth Olubunmi Amao, making donation widows of Military personnel in Abuja as part of activities to 57 years Anniversary of Nigerian Air Force.
The Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA) has donated medical supplies to the 063 NAF hospital in Abuja, to boost the healthcare system at the centre. It also distributed food items and toiletries to the widows of military personnel who lost their lives in the course of defending the nation against insurgency activities.
Speaking at the occasion on Tuesday at the Nigeran Air Force (NAF) base, Abuja, the president of NAFOWA, Mrs Elizabeth Olubunmi Amao, stated that the exercise was part of the activities lined up to celebrate the 57 years anniversary of the service in the country.
Mrs Amao explained that the vision of the association was to carry out programmes and initiatives aimed to better the lives of the less privileged in the society beginning from the NAF bases, host communities and beyond across the country and well to associate with the families left behind by the fallen heroes.
According to her, “Our aim is to locate where there is the need and step in, especially in the areas of widows, women and youths empowerment. We are committed not to allow your plights to go unnoticed.
“We are determined to provide succour to you as best as we can. Though we celebrate you regularly, today is a special day. At the end of the day, we would have drawn the public attention to your challenges.
“We hope that by so doing, many more will become positive influencers in one way or the other in reaching out to sisters and their children all over the nation.”
She assured the widows of the fallen heroes that NAFOWA and the Armed Forces, in general, would continue to do the best in seeing that families of the fallen military were not neglected because they paid the supreme price in defending their fatherland
Items donated to the medical centre include air conditioners, fridges, disinfectant, blood pressure equipment, monitor, stretchers, mosquito nets, disposable hand gloves, wheelchairs, pedal bin, stethoscope kidney dish among other medical equipment, while Items distributed to the widows include bags of rice, beans, Semovita, vegetable oils, cartons spaghetti, toiletries among other food items.
NAFOWA also carried out a medical outreach programme to Zamani Village where over 2000 villagers were treated by a medical team led by Group Captain Muhammed.
