The Niger State Police Command has announced that, due to sustained pressure and close monitoring, a six-month-old baby identified as Chinedu Samson, who was earlier reported to have been taken away by an unidentified person from his mother’s shop at A.A. Kure Market in Minna, has been found abandoned near an erosion ditch close to Gauraka Primary School in the Gauraka area of Tafa LGA, Niger State.
The discovery was made on Wednesday, 26th July 2023, at about 12:30 pm.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, issued a press statement on Wednesday in Minna, providing details of the incident.
The statement recalled that on 23rd July 2023, a baby of about six months old named Chinedu Samson was allegedly taken away by an unidentified person from the mother’s shop at A.A. Kure Market in Minna, as reported by the mother at GRA Division on Tuesday, 25th July 2023.
It further mentioned that the case of abduction was immediately documented and transferred to SCID Minna, while the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command initiated an investigation with the aid of technical intelligence.
According to DSP Abiodun Wasiu, the baby was taken to a nearby hospital for medical examination and was confirmed to be in good health. He has since been reunited with the family.
He also assured that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing perpetrator of the crime so that they could face the full force of the law.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Ogundele J. Ayodeji, psc(+), expressed appreciation for the concern of all Nigerlites and residents and their efforts in achieving this positive outcome.
The Police Boss further urged parents and guardians in parts of the state to be more careful and security-conscious, especially when it comes to entrusting their children to strangers.
