Man, 23, kills mother over money in Akwa Ibom

Published by

For the family members of Ekpene Atai in Uruk Uso village, Abak Local Government Area, Wednesday, October 12, 2023, will remain a day not to be forgotten in a hurry, as a 23-year-old man, Akaninyene Sunday Isaac, allegedly killed his 55-year-old mother following disagreements over money.

A family source told our correspondent that trouble started when the young man requested money from his mother, who had always given him money anytime he asked. But on the fateful day, the mother told Akaninyene that there was no money with her.

This reportedly infuriated the young man who was supposed to take care of his mother, prompting him to pick up a machete and attack the mother, who passed out before she could receive medical attention.

The family member, who described the incident as unfortunate, informed our correspondent that the entire family is currently in a state of mourning, expressing sorrow for the deceased, whom they described as a peaceful woman.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko McDon, who confirmed the story, informed our correspondent that the suspect, the alleged killer, is currently in custody at the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary.

According to him, investigations are ongoing to uncover the immediate and remote causes of this dastardly act.
