Lockdown relaxation: Transporters flout FG directives on 3 passengers in Abuja

FIVE weeks after a total lockdown of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as well as Lagos and Ogun States by President Muhammadu Buhari to curtail the spread of COVID -19 pandemic, normal activities today began in Abuja, as transporters and residents commenced their businesses.

Tribune Online, however, observed that some transporters flouted Federal Government’s directive on two passengers at the back, one in the front.

Investigations further revealed that as early as 6:00 am, many businessmen and women, who are not frontline workers or not on essential duties, utilized the absence of security operatives on the road to get to their destinations.

It was also observed that social distancing protocols were not strictly adhered to while wearing face masks at all times were observed.

The popular and bubbling Federal Secretariat still remains ghost town to itself, as the majority of the offices were still under lock and key.

One of the ministries’ union chairman, who preferred anonymity, told Tribune Online that the offices would remain close, he said; “how many level 14 officers and above do we have in this my ministry.”

It will be recalled that President Buhari had, during his National Broadcast last Monday, directed all civil servants in the FCT on Grade level 14 and above to report for work three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between the hours of 8 am and 2 pm, effective from today, Monday, May 4, 2020.
