The Lions Club of Osun Classic, in conjunction with the Osun Esteem Lions Club, distributed waste baskets, dustpans, and other cleaning equipment to market women in Ikirun over the weekend.
The aim of this initiative was to promote environmental sanitation and prevent diseases that could be hazardous to their health.
During the organised programme titled “Sustainable Environmental Cleanliness,” the Lion Club carried out the exercise at the Saturday market in Ikirun.
The initiative was co-sponsored by Lion Abdelhafeez Olalekan Ishaq Maigida, who serves as the President of Osun Classic Lions Club and also as the Chairperson for Environmental Sustainability.
Prior to the distribution of cleaning equipment, the team had visited the Monday market in the township and engaged in environmental cleaning to ensure the trading centre’s tidiness.
Addressing the market women at the Saturday market, Lion Yeye Hajia Toyin Adesoye, the Service Chairperson for Osun Classic, advised them to maintain good hygiene practices to avoid infections such as bacterial diseases that could harm their health.
She emphasized the importance of personal health and urged them to keep their environment clean and practice hygiene in all aspects of their lives.
Lion Adesoye, who actively participated in the distribution of modern cleaning materials to the market women, also raised awareness and advocated for measures against diphtheria.
She encouraged the market women to join the Lions Club in their efforts to fight against untidiness in various markets across the state.
Furthermore, she promised to implement a Health Education Programme to prevent disease outbreaks in every community market.
Lion Kazeem Akofe Lasisi, the chartered President of Osun Esteem Lions Club, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation of the market women during their enlightenment programs.
He urged them to adhere to the teachings and advice provided to maintain healthy living in their respective environments.
Lion Lasisi reaffirmed the club’s commitment to humanitarian services, ensuring that people’s health remains a top priority in society, and maintaining their position as a pacesetter among other clubs.
