Lebanese who advertised Nigerian woman for sale has been arrested ― Dabiri-Erewa

A Lebanese, Mr Wael Jerro, who advertised a Nigerian woman for sale on Facebook has been arrested by the Lebanese government.

Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, made the disclosure on Thursday via her Twitter handle.

The Lebanese had advertised on Facebook of his intention to sell the trafficked Nigerian woman for the sum of $1,000.

The NIDCOM chairman alerted the Nigerian mission in Lebanon which subsequently informed the host authorities.

The authorities in Beirut had launched a manhunt for Mr Jerro, while its Ministry of Labour similarly   issued a circular on Wednesday condemning Jerro’s action as criminal, unethical and a contravention of Lebanese laws and against the principles of human rights.

The circular further revealed the intention of authorities in Beirut to take legal action against Mr Jerro for human trafficking before a competent judicial authority, in line with its statutory responsibility.

Dabiri-Erewa tweeted: “On trafficked Nigerian girl for sale on Facebook by a Lebanese. The Lebanese govt just announced the arrest of Mr Wael Jerro for onward prosecution against criminal sale of a human, a young Nigerian girl.”

The Nigerian mission in Lebanon has since demanded for an immediate handover of the victim to the mission unconditionally and in good health.
