The Executive Chairman of the district, Hon. Dr Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira has distributed free West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) GCE forms to indigent students as part of his commitment to raising the literacy bar in Itire-ikate Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
The WAEC GCE forms distribution, according to the council helmsman, is aimed at providing quality education with ease and availing opportunities to deprived students to seat for the examinations and prepare them for tertiary education.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony held at the council secretariat, Apatira advised the beneficiaries to invest quality time studying and avoid distractions in whatever guise.
While promising bountiful educational support to the citizenry, he disclosed that his administration is equally working on other educational packages towards improving the standard of education of the students and availing them unique opportunities.
The Council boss advised beneficiaries to concentrate on their studies and aim for the best in their educational pursuit, adding that “Education is key and the only way you can give that to the people is to give an opportunity to everyone willing to study and make sure they are well educated and that’s what we’re doing.”
In her remark, Head of Department, Education and Library Services, Mrs Adetimehin Olufunke said, “Indeed, education is the best legacy. And this explains the commitment and investment of Hon (Dr) Ahmed Apatira’s administration in education to ensure that our youths are academically and morally sound. Our chairman is ever-ready to support the teeming youths when it comes to education.”
Also in attendance were the council Vice-Chairman, Hon Yetunde Jimba, Deputy leader and Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Adeshola Santos-Martins, Secretary to the Local Government, Hon Kehinde Baruwa and Supervisor for Education, Hon. Yomi Lawrence.
