The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 20 individuals, comprising both men and women, for engaging in gender-inclusive bathing at a leisure centre located at Ring Road in Kano.
This action was taken by the board’s Operation Kau Da Badala following complaints from local residents.
Dr Mujahidin Aminuddin Abubakar, the Deputy Commandant General of the board, stated that the activity contravened Hisbah law, saying, “The offence contravened Hisbah law as it forbids mingling together of both genders inside the water to bathe.”
He expressed concern over such activities, suggesting that the individuals involved could have engaged in more beneficial and rewarding activities in accordance with religious teachings.
In addition to urging parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s whereabouts,
Abubakar stated that the suspects would face appropriate punishment when the investigation was concluded, urging parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s whereabouts.
This incident follows previous actions by the Hisbah Board. In March, the board apprehended 11 Muslims for violating the Ramadan fast by eating during the daytime.
