In a bid to contribute to the education of students in Oyo State, an information technology firm, Precix Tech, has awarded empowerment scholarships in ICT skills to the best-graduating students from some selected secondary schools in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The flag-off of the scholarship took place on Friday at the Easy Prevarsity ATM Building in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
Speaking, the Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Adelabu Salihu, lauded the organiser of the initiative.
He noted that such interventions will contribute to the development of education and technology in the state.
Salihu, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Senior Secondary, Ministry of Education, Tayo Stephen, reiterated the state government’s commitment to education and technological development in the state.
He advised participants to be focused as they learn new ideas and skills in ICT.
He said, “On behalf of the Oyo state government, we appreciate your contributions to the development of education and technological development in the state.
“I would like you all to keep supporting the present administration in its efforts towards promoting the course of education in the state
“My darling students, as you participate today, I want you to pay close attention to the new skills you will be acquiring from this programme. The new ideas and knowledge learned should be shared with your colleagues who are not opportune to be here.”
Speaking during the official flag-off of the initiative, the Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Dr Kazeem Akande, noted that the initiative, which is held in partnership with his non-governmental organisation, Akande Tunde Movement, ATM, is aimed at empowering students who have just completed their senior secondary school examination (SSCE) with knowledge of ICT.
He added that ICT skills will go a long way in helping the beneficiaries during external examinations, including the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME).
Akande further stated that beneficiaries will be trained on ICT and career choice within the duration of 8 weeks, adding that the best among the participants will be awarded gift items and scholarships to study at any of the organisation’s partnered universities.
Adding to that, the organisation is focused on ICT solutions, with a special focus on international training on ICT, building in data communication and information, website design, sales repair, and installation integration for training individuals, corporations, government, and non-governmental organisations.
