I’m ready to work for LP‘s win in Imo — Maduka

Published by

A major financier of the Labour Party in Abuja stated yesterday that the party is confident of winning the November 11 governorship election in Imo State.

Basil Maduka, a chieftain of the party who had contested the gubernatorial ticket and took the matter to the Supreme Court, expressed his readiness to work for the victory of the Labour Party in Imo State.

This sentiment was echoed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, who stated that the party was open to welcoming estranged members back into its fold.

Maduka affirmed his support for the party’s candidate, Senator Athan Achonu, in the forthcoming governorship election, aiming for a landslide victory.

He had previously contested Achonu’s candidature up to the Supreme Court, which affirmed Senator Achonu as the party’s candidate.

In a statement to reporters in Abuja on Wednesday, Maduka declared his full support for the party now that the Supreme Court had declared Achonu the authentic flag bearer of the party.

He clarified that he had no affiliation with the Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party.

Maduka emphasised, “I want to categorically state that I am not associated with any faction within the Labour Party, particularly in Apapa.

These claims are baseless and are being spread in an attempt to tarnish my reputation and exclude me from participating in party affairs.”

He also outlined his substantial investments in the party and reiterated his determination to see the Labour Party succeed in the elections.

He added, “Today, in our party, we will make sure that our party wins because I’ve invested a lot. I am the highest investor.

So, my party in Imo has to win. Anyone who is telling you that if this man is still in the party, is he still in Imo State? Nobody from Imo can tell you that Basil Maduka is not loved.”

Maduka highlighted the various support groups and structures he has set up in Imo State under the Labour Party, emphasising his influence in the state’s political landscape.

He concluded by saying, “As we speak, the Supreme Court matter just ended, and I addressed all my supporters on Saturday.

I called all the unit heads, the 55 support groups, Basil Maduka’s movement, the state excos, and all their heads.

I addressed them on Saturday. That was my first outing because we still have the election in three weeks.”
