The newly appointed Managing Director of Hydroelectricity Power Producing Area Developing Commission (HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, has stated that the Commission will engage relevant Stakeholders within the affected communities to address the challenges of the Commission in line with its peculiarity.
Sadiq Yelwa who disclosed this during his maiden visit to Kebbi State last weekend in Birnin-Kebbi the Kebbi State Capital expressed that the Commission will prioritise issues that require immediate response within the shortest possible time.
The Chairman Governing Council of the Commission, Hon. Joseph Ityav, in his submission, informed that the Commission is fully aware of challenges facing HYPPADEC and as such, will deploy all available resources to change the narrative.
In his submission also, the Emir of Yauri, Alhaji Muhammad Zayanu Abdullahi, told the visiting members of the Commission that Yauri Emirate lost substantial economic viable lands to the construction of the Kainji Electricity Dam without any correspondent’s benefit.
The Royal Father submitted further that the act establishing the construction of the Dam slept out special projects for the affected Communities such as inland ports, ring roads, dredging of the river Niger and small boat industry among others, and none of the aforementioned projects was executed.
He, however, salute the courage of President Buhari for inaugurating the HYPPADEC, as he charged members of the Governing Council of the Commission to take a deep look into the various issues to reduce the continue monumental loss of lives and properties as a result of flood and other ecological challenges.
