Gunmen abduct 14 persons in Kogi

No fewer than 14 persons have been kidnapped in between Iffe and Egbeda communities in Kogi-West senetorial district of Kogi State by some gunmen, on Monday.

Amongst the kidnapped was the wife to the late Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Zonal Chairman, late Barr Matthew Kola- Ojo wife, Mrs Kola- Ojo.

The journey was said to be her first trip after concluding the mandatory mourning period of her husband from Okoro-Gbede but was kidnapped on her way back.

Tribune Online gathered that five persons were later released by the kidnappers but the late PDP Zonal chairman’s wife is still being held captive.

Confirming the story, the President, Okun Development Association, ODA, Chief Femi Mokikan, however, said that eight persons were released by the kidnappers.

He also said the kidnappers have established contact with a relative of Mrs Kola-Ojo but are yet to demand for ransom.

“The persons they (kidnappers) called was a family uncle to the woman, telling him they have Mrs Kola-Ojo in their custody. But before they could state their ransom, the man’s phone experienced a flat battery. We are hoping that they will call back today.

“I got the information about the kidnapped saga about 10:30 am and we started shouting to those that matter including the Senior Security Adviser to the governor for help.”

He said ODA in collaboration with Ijumu Local government officials are working round the clock for their release, urging for prayer for Okunland.”

Meanwhile, when contacted the Kofi State Police Command Public Relation Officer, DSP William Aya, sent a text message saying “sorry, I am in a sensitisation workshop in Abuja” but a senior officer who confirmed the incident said he was not in a position to legally disclosed any information to newsmen.
