Governor Adeleke shines at 2023 BON awards, restates commitment to uplifting entertainment industry in Osun

For attendees of the 2023 Best of Nollywood Awards, many details will continue to ring on in their memory long after this season is past. The 15th awards ceremony, which was held on Friday, December 22 at the Adolak Event Centre in Oshogbo, Osun State was hosted by the Nollywood actor, Kunle Remi.

Chinenye Nworah’s ‘Shanty Town’ and Tunde Aina’s ‘Underbelly’ emerged as major contenders for the highest number of awards received in the course of the night.

A total of 29 awards were won by film practitioners while two special recognition awards were conferred on two veterans, Adebayo Salami (aka Oga Bello), and Chief Toyin Adegbola (aka Asewo to re Mecca).

The special recognition awards were presented to the two veterans by Governor Ademola Adeleke to the delight of the filmmakers and practitioners in attendance.

Nworah’s ‘Shanty Town’ and Aina’s ‘Underbelly’ emerged the biggest winners with five awards each. While ‘Shanty Town’ won awards for Best Use Of Make Up, Best Actress In A Supporting Role English, Best Actress In An English Movie, Best Actor in an English Movie, and Movie of the Year, ‘Underbelly’ clinched the awards for Best Use of Special Effect, Production Design, Most Promising Actor, Best Actor in a Supporting Role English, and Director of the Year.

Other winners included ‘Ifedichie,’ ‘Obara’m,’ Mustapha Solagbade, Debbie Sokoya, Funso Adeolu, Jumoke Odetola, and Princess Kossy Nwogu.

Other notable attendees at the event included state commissioners; Chief Dele Momodu; Nobert Young, Yemi Blaq, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, Segun Arinze, Fred Amata, Kemi Adekomi, Damilola Oni, and Abiola Atanda (aka Madam Kofo).

The highlight of the awards was Governor Adeleke’s performance at the after-party. He displayed why he is popularly referred to as the dancing governor as he thrilled with his dance steps and even mimed some of his nephews’ songs, Davido and Sina Rambo. He stole the show when he took centre stage with the microphone to act as hype man for the excited guests.

During his speech, Governor Adeleke stated that everyone knows about his love for the entertainment and arts industry. He noted that his son and nephew are top players and that he strives to support the entertainment industry. He further implored the film practitioners to take advantage of the landscape and support of the state government in Osun State.

Also speaking at the star-studded event was Seun Oloketuyi, founder and CEO of BON Awards.

He revealed that bringing the awards to Osun State was a masterstroke. He also revealed in an exclusive interview that the travelling pan-Nigeria awards will be heading to Enugu State for the 16th edition.
