Give proper attention to media, arts, culture, NGO urges govts

A Non-Governmental Organisation, the Africa Youth Growth Foundation (AYGF), has called on governments at all levels to give proper attention to the media, arts, and culture.

The founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Arome Salifu, made the call after being conferred with the 2023 Beacon of Hope and Humanitarian Award by the Radio, Theatre, and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) in Lokoja.

Dr Salifu, who was represented by Deputy Director, News and Current Affairs of Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, Comrade Samuel Atuluku, said it was necessary for governments to invest more in the media, arts, and culture.

According to Dr. Arome, giving more attention to the sector would guarantee cultural preservation as well as increase creativity, explaining that culture and media play significant roles in society.

He described the theme of the RATTAWU week as appropriate, urging the body to do more through appropriate collaboration with relevant bodies.

Dr Arome expressed appreciation to RATTAWU for recognising his modest contributions to the growth of society, adding that the award would spur him to do more for the overall benefit of society.

Earlier, the Kogi State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Haruna Isah, said the recognition of Dr. Arome Salifu for the award was in consideration of his role in advancing society.

Comrade Haruna urged other well-to-do individuals to emulate such sterling examples, noting that society would be a better place for all when there was consideration for the less privileged.

The theme of RATTAWU Week is “Media, Arts, and Culture as a panacea for good governance and development.”
