FCTA to rehabilitate dormant rural social facilities

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has indicated interest to rehabilitate critical social facilities, located at the six area councils.

FCT Mandate Secretary, for Social Development Secretariat, Ibrahim Aminu, while on tour of facilities in the area councils.

Aminu said the administration will revive those facilities that can be revived immediately and put them to use, while those that require long-term planning will also be given necessary attention.

He reaffirmed his commitment to actualising the mandate of the Social Development Secretariat, which according to him, is the provision of social services to the residents of the territory.

Facilities visited the company of other senior officials of the Secretariat include Ushafa Pottery Centre, Bwari Mini Stadium in Ushafa, Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre, Kuchiko-Bwari, Women Development Centre, Zuba and Lugbe Vocational and Training Centre.

The Mandate Secretary who did not hide his displeasure over the deplorable conditions of some of the facilities visited directed relevant departments in charge of such facilities to ensure they compiled a comprehensive report about the current state of the facility including challenges with pictorial evidence and forwarded it to his office for onward presentation to the minister.

He was visibly unhappy at the very bad shape abandoned Bwari Mini Stadium in Ushafa which construction had been stalled despite the fact that about fifty percent of the funds have been paid to the contractor handling the project, it was gathered.

Aminu promised to report the level of things he has seen so far in the course of the tour to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and Mariya Mahmoud.
