The Federal Capital Territory Directorate of Road Traffic Services (FCT-DTRS), on Thursday, stormed illegal motor parks and garages at Area One roundabout through Area Three junction and Apo roundabout in Abuja, impounding 46 vehicles, one tricycle and four motorcycles.
Officials of DRTS in collaboration with the FCTA Command and Control Task team on city Sanitation led by Shehu Adams stormed the areas as early as 8:00 in the morning.
Head of Public Relations and Enlightenment of DTRS, Mr Kalu Emetu, told newsmen during the exercise that the action became imperative with a view to ridding them of all the activities that obstruct traffic on roads.
He said the penalty for the offence depends on the kind of vehicle involved and offence committed, adding that there are N25,000 and some are up to N40,000, so as to serve as a deterrent to others.
“We have been at Area One and Three, Apo Legislative bridge, Apo roundabout; but we will still go to Berger. We don’t stop, because we have a task force, whose primary function is to move round the city daily, to make sure that we clear this kind of obstruction.
“We want every resident of Abuja to know there are alternatives. Let them go to the approved motor parks to board vehicles, and refrain from boarding vehicles loading on the road corridors.
“The other effort we are making is to intensive sensitisation campaign to ensure that people obey traffic laws,” he insisted.
