Ex-Bauchi Governor, Abubakar should account for N321bn, Bibi Dogo, PDP chieftain alleges

Published by

Immediate past governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has been challenged to account for the sum of N321,267,339.69 he allegedly collected within the first 31 months of his administration or show the projects executed with the amount, just as the former governor described the allegation as baseless and unfounded.

The challenge was thrown at the former governor by a chieftain of the ruling PDP in the state, Alhaji Bibi Dogo while interacting with selected Journalists in Bauchi over the weekend, saying that the amount was collected under the watch of the former governor from the Paris Club funds, statutory allocation of state and local governments, donations from the USAID for educational development, internally generated revenue, domestic and foreign loans.

While giving the breakdown of the amount collected by the former governor, Bibi Dogo who served in the assets and recovery committee set up by incumbent Governor, Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, alleged that from the records at their disposal the former governor collected the sum of N33,425,994,087,69 for first, second and third trench of the Paris Club loans refunds from the Federal Government.

He explained that the ex-Governor Abubakar collected N205,328,523,558,00 for state and local governments from the federation account within the first 31 months of his administration, and he received donations from the USAID to the tune of $57,000,000 equivalent to N17,385,000,000,00 and between June 2015 to June 2016, the former governor received the sum N22,778,721,996,00.

Bibi Dogo also said that the former governor collected the sum of N59,734,100,000,00 both domestic and foreign loans including N11,000,000,000,00 budget support collected from the Federal Government.

The PDP stalwart further said that this was the first of revelations on the amount of money collected by the former governor without commissioning a single project within his first tenure saying, “and by the grace of God, we will release the second and third phases of the amount received during the tenure of former governor within his 48 months in office because we didn’t touch many of the amounts collected yet.”

He also said that it was shameful the recent press conference by the media committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC) where they made baseless allegations against the incumbent Governor, Bala Mohammed, because within his one year in office has executed projects worth billions of Naira that were seen by the people of the state.

Bibi Dogo further said that the projects included constructions of roads, bridges in the three Senatorial districts, provision of Bauchi Water Supply, construction of over 1,000 classrooms by SUBEB and SDGs, as well as the establishment of coronavirus testing centre among others.

In his reaction the former Governor through his spokesman, Ali Mohammed Ali said that the issue is nothing but laughable because according to him, “we have responded to this issue severally, before now it was N1 trillion and now down to N321 billion, what are we saying is that let them say something new and concrete.”

Ali Mohammed Ali who spoke on phone Sunday evening said that it is the figment of the imagination of the people making the allegations but as far they are concerned, they have made their position known since the first time.
