The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has received commendation for the way it is addressing complaints from electricity consumers across Nigeria.
The commendation was made by electricity consumers during the recently concluded Electricity Consumer Complaint Resolution Platform put together by FCCPC with support from the McArthur Foundation. The event was held in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
The platform serves as a one-stop solution for addressing electricity billing, metering, transformers, connections, disconnections, customer service, and other electricity consumer issues within the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) coverage areas.
One of the consumers, a resident of the Adeyemo area in Ibadan, who spoke with journalists on the sidelines of the four-day event, stated that he attended the complaint resolution platform to raise concerns about the electricity transformer in his area.
He expressed satisfaction with the reassuring response he received from the team of experts on-site and is highly optimistic that the issue will be resolved promptly.
Another consumer, Mrs Bidemi Falodun, residing in Omi-Adio, expressed her contentment with the assistance she received and conveyed confidence that the complaint she brought before the platform would be promptly attended to as promised.
She further stated, “I must commend the organisers of this platform. They have done an excellent job by dedicating time to listening to complaints from electricity consumers and being willing to address them within a very short period of time.
With this kind of arrangement, confidence has been instilled in electricity consumers that the funds paid to electricity distribution companies are being utilised effectively.”
Mr Rasheed Owolabi, a resident of Akesan, Oyo town, expressed delight with the process and said, “I’ve been eagerly awaiting an opportunity like this to express the challenges we are experiencing in my area regarding electricity supply.
I travelled all the way from Oyo Town. I am happy to tell you that the response I received from the combined team of FCCPC and IBEDC gives me hope that the challenges will be resolved very soon.
On this note, I commend FCCPC for providing this opportunity to communicate the problems we face as electricity consumers.”
