Ishola Michael – Bauchi

Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman has been declared the winner of the State Assembly election for the Ningi Central constituency held on Saturday.

Declaring the results in Ningi, on Sunday, the INEC returning officer, Professor Shuaibu Muhammad declared that the Speaker polled 16, 866 votes to defeat Hon. Khalid Abdulmalik Ningi of All Progressive Congress (APC) who polled 15, 065 votes and Hon. Danlami Garba Bara’u of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) who polled 4,886 votes.

In his remarks shortly after the declaration, Abubakar Suleiman expressed his “gratitude to Almighty Allah for the huge success recorded by him and other PDP candidates across the state.”

He also expressed his wholehearted appreciation to the people of Ningi central constituency for the confidence they repose in him by giving him another mandate for a second term.

While commending all stakeholders and voters for the peaceful conduct of the exercise, Suleiman who is also the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, told the people of Ningi and the state, in general, to expect more people-oriented initiatives and development strides in his second term.

The Speaker called on his opponents, whom he described as his friends and allies, not to despair, see the contest as a race to develop Ningi and join hands with him in his new Ningi development project.

Recall that Suleiman was elected as a member of the House of Assembly in 2019 under the APC and got elected as the Speaker but later decamped to the PDP which is in power in the state.

Also, Hon. Ibrahim Tanko Burra of the PDP has been returned elected as a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly for Burra Constituency of Ningi Local Government Area.

He polled a total of 11,226 votes to defeat the incumbent APC’s Hon Ado Wakili who polled a total of 7,210 votes and the NNPP’s Hon. Kabiru Zakari who polled 1,466.

A political observer from the area simply said, “It’s great deliverance for us in Burra after four years of nonexistence representation. Congratulations Butawa!”
