In the spirit of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, over 160 vulnerable women in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, have received food items donated by the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the NEAR Foundation, a non-governmental organization.
During the donation, Dr Abbas Idriss, the Director General of FEMA, stated that the gesture aimed to ensure the participation of vulnerable individuals in the Sallah celebrations.
Representing the Director General, Engr. Abdul Rahman Mohammed, the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation at the Agency, appealed to the Muslim ummah to follow the example of the NEAR Foundation and extend support to the less privileged.
He said, “If the Muslim ummah can contribute to NEAR Foundation, this event will be expanded, and we can reach more people.”
Abdul Malik Bulakos, the Project Coordinator of the NEAR Foundation, highlighted that the Foundation has provided assistance to the less privileged in 28 states across the country through 140 points, distributing 4 kilograms of meat and food items.
Since 2019, the NEAR Foundation has been positively impacting the lives of the less privileged members of Nigerian society, regardless of their religious affiliation.
He urged the general public to embrace empathy, care, and compassion for one another, irrespective of religious affiliation or cultural background, in order to create a better Nigeria.
In response, Halita Joseph and Samuwa Yohana, speaking on behalf of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who have settled in Waru, Yimutu, and Malaysia Gardens, expressed appreciation for the gifts and appealed to the government to empower them with vocational skills for self-employment.
