EFCC warns of planned protest against commission

Published by

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a public warning about a planned protest organised by a clandestine group against the Commission.

Over the past few days, this group has been actively using social media to recruit young Nigerians, including students, to participate in a protest against the EFCC.

This campaign, branded as resistance to the Commission’s enforcement of cybercrime laws, is seen by the EFCC as an attempt by corrupt individuals under investigation or prosecution to instigate a national uprising.

The Commission expressed concern that this movement could jeopardise the peace and security of Nigeria.

While acknowledging the right to peaceful protests, the EFCC emphasised that it will not tolerate any actions leading to lawlessness, especially around its offices nationwide.

In collaboration with other security agencies, the Commission is implementing measures to counter potential threats to national security.

The EFCC urged parents, guardians, and educational institutions to ensure that their wards are not exploited by those with corrupt motives.

The Commission reiterated that its fight against corruption and cybercrime is aimed at safeguarding the future of Nigerian youth.
