EEDC prepaid metres to cease working November 2023

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has informed its customers that as of November 24, 2024, all prepaid metres in its network will no longer accept credit tokens unless they are upgraded.

This information was conveyed in a statement issued in Enugu on Monday by Mr Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC.

According to Ezeh, the reason for this change is due to a software upgrade that will be affecting all Standard Transfer Specification (STS) compliant prepaid meters worldwide.

The upgrade will be carried out through a special ‘reset token’ called the “Key Change Token” (KCT), which will be loaded onto customers’ meters to facilitate the upgrade.

He advised customers of EEDC who are using prepaid meters to ensure that their meters are upgraded before the specified date of November 24, 2024, to avoid losing their functionality.

The EEDC spokesperson assured customers that the management of EEDC is working to provide them with the necessary information and guidelines for the upgrade. He also urged customers to remain calm and not panic.
