Delta govt trains 100 engineers in road construction

At least 100 engineers have been trained at a three-day capacity building workshop organised by the Delta state Ministry of Works (Highways, Urban, Rural and Riverine) in Delta state in a bid to equip them with a better understanding of engineering skills to meet up with new challenges in road construction.

The commissioners in the ministry, Hon. Reuben Izeze (Highways and Urban)and Mr Charles Aniagwu (Rural and Riverine) stated that the workshop held in Irri, Isoko South Local Government Area of the state,
was relevant to equip the engineers to meet up with the M.O.R.E agenda of Gov Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

The commissioners, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Fred Edafiogho disclosed the state government had planned to embark on massive road projects for the greater development of the state.

According to the commissioners, the concerned engineers in the ministry should brace up for the challenges ahead, learn new innovations and be able to overcome such challenges, using knowledge acquired at the workshop.

Also speaking in his capacity as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Engr Edafiogho who revealed that over 100 engineers were involved in the workshop said, “The ministry needs to improve on the knowledge and ability of our engineers to deliver. By this, things they used to take for granted will no longer be so treated.”

Some of the engineers who spoke on their orientation about road construction, especially in swampy and riverine areas admitted the workshop had broadened their knowledge as it had been a huge challenge for them whenever they had projects in those areas.

The Deputy Director, Urban, Chris Gberevbie, thanked the commissioners for organising the workshop, adding that the engineers were better informed of certain areas of engineering work which were unknown to them before the training.

The workshop was held at Irri in Isoko South Local Government Area of the state.
