Delta govt revokes concession agreement on Landers Brothers Anchorage

Published by

Delta State Government has revoked the concession agreement in the development and management of Lander Brothers Anchorage, Asaba, following the abysmal failure of its partner, Jabi Boat Club, to execute its own side of the agreement.

The agreement was entered into in 2021 by the immediate past administration to further boost tourism.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Communication, Mrs Theresa Oliko, the Directorate of Culture and Tourism was in the process of conducting a fresh bid to engage a company with the capacity to develop and manage the anchorage with a view to further bring the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

The statement recalled that the agreement was done with the intention of adding value to the state capital and creating a world-class relaxation facility for the people of Delta.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the anchorage was built in memory of the Lander Brothers-Richard and John (credited with the discovery of the mouth of River Niger) who anchored at about that spot of the river during the expedition that they took over from Mungo Park. The erected anchorage is, however, not the original one but a replica; the original one is at Aboh.
