Cross River: INEC declares Bassey Otu winner of governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared Prince Bassey Edet Otu of the All Progressive Congress (APC), as the winner of the Cross River state governorship elections.

Making the announcement, the Returning Officer for Cross River State, Professor Teddy Charles Adias, declared that Bessey Otu got a total of 258619 votes to defeat Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 179636 votes.

According to results collated by INEC, the PDP took the lead in three local governments which are Ikom, Bekwarra and Ogoja, while the APC swept all the other 15 local governments with wide margins.

According to Adias, “Otu Bassey Edet, of the APC having certified the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

Other statistics show that “accredited votes stood at 466294, total registered votes were 1766466, Valid votes, stood at 451,933 rejected votes were 8,923 while total votes cast was 460,856.”
