COVID-19: We are working on herbal remedies —Traditional worshippers

THE Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association of Oyo State (TRWASSO), on Friday, said it is working on herbal remedies for the prevention and cure of coronavirus, code-named COVID-19.

TRWASSO made the disclosure at the state secretariat in Ibadan during the presentation of some protective items against coronavirus to the state government.

TRWASSO’s secretary, Chief Fayemi Fakayode, who noted that pandemics and viruses are as old as human existence, stated that the association was currently working on local herbs that are capable of preventing and curing coronavirus.

Fakayode, who was flanked by the president of the association, Dasola Adefabi, and other executive members, noted that Nigeria should take a cue from Madagascar which has produced local herbs to tackle coronavirus.

He said: “We are working on herbal remedies and solutions to this coronavirus that is ravaging the whole world. As traditionalists, we have said many times that there are traditional solutions to coronavirus.

“We are here to contribute our own quota to the development of our state and Nigeria in general. We are here to donate some protective items to the state government to tackle coronavirus.

“Pandemics are as old as human beings. They have existed for long and our fathers have found cure for them. Pandemics are not a new thing in the world. When this pandemic broke out, we proposed to the government what can be done to prevent and cure it. We issued press statements. The government needs to collaborate with us to get the solution ready.

“In Madagascar, they are now using herbal remedies. That shows that herbs can prevent and cure coronavirus.

“We are working on our own herbal remedies for the prevention and cure of coronavirus.”

The state Commissioner of Health, Dr Bashir Bello, who received the items donated by the association, on behalf of the state government, said the state was ready to partner the association to find a lasting solution to the pandemic.”

The commissioner, who thanked the association for the donation, said: “What we are trying to look into is to ensure that we go back to the root. We believe that nature that provides an atmosphere for the virus to survive will provide the solution to it.”.
