COVID-19: Oro devotees embark on procession to cleanse Ile-Ife, Nigeria

The battle against the ravaging coronavirus pandemic took a spiritual dimension in Ile-Ife on Thursday when Oro occult members embarked on a procession to cleanse the town and the entire country of coronavirus.

In a public service announcement signed by Chief Oyelami Awoyode Ibile on behalf of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, residents of the town were cautioned not to go out of their houses.

According to the announcement, it is forbidden for anybody, regardless of status, religion or gender to sight the Oro deity due to dire consequences.

It reads “the Oro deity would be on the streets of Ile-Ife between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm to cleanse Ile-Ife and the entire country of the deadly coronavirus. Everybody is enjoined not to come out of their houses while the Oro procession lasts.

“Designated areas where the procession would pass through include Iwara Ilode, Oke Atan, Iloro, Arubidi, Moremi, Ondo Road, Olurin, Iyekere, Omi Okun, Itaagbon, Oke Ayetoro, Otutu, Ajamopo, Lokore, Ilare, Sabo, Iremo, Itasun, Odoiwara and Olumogbe.

Other areas also include Ijio, Ojafe, Edena, Igbo Agbo, Obalejugbe, Mokuro Road, Iredumi, Lagere, Obalufon, Itakogun, Fajuyi, Ita Olopo, Oriyangi, Okemorisa, Isaleagbara, Ogbon Oya, Akui, Ogbingbin, Oroto, Oduduwa College Road and host of others.
