COVID-19: Kano govt seals off schools where five Almajiri who tested positive in Kaduna stayed

Published by

The Kano State government has said in its efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus in the state, it has resolved to seal off all the Tsangaya schools where the five Almajiris who tested positive for the disease in Kaduna stayed.

The Kaduna State government had on Monday said that five of the 195 Almajiri children evacuated from Kano to the state had tested positive to the virus.

Speaking with journalists in Kano on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Education and Chairman of the Almajiri Evacuation Committee, Sanusi Kiru, disclosed that everything necessary would be put in place to curtail the spread of the disease

Kiru maintained that the children went through medical screening before they were moved to Kaduna and other states of their origin.

“Before we evacuated those children to their various states of origin, we provided some medical personnel who checked their health status.

“All suspected children and their teachers will be quarantined while tracing of those who had contact with them had commenced.

“Therefore, we will do everything possible to stem the spread of the virus in the schools and the state in general,” he said.

The commissioner disclosed that “during the preliminary medical checks, their temperature was normal. The state government had medical records of all the evacuated Almajiris in addition to knowing which Tsangaya school they came from.”

He further added that the measure to seal off the Tsangaya schools was necessary in order to ensure that the schools were fumigated and disinfected.
