COVID-19: Governor Bello lifts ban on total lockdown in Kabba/Bunu

THE governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has lifted the ban on total lockdown in Kabba/ Bunu local government council of Kogi State over alleged COVID-19 cases in those communities.

The governor disclosed this while addressing newsmen at government house, Lokoja on Friday.

The governor’s statement came just three days into the contact tracing and testing of people in the communities.

The governor said the purpose of the lockdown in those communities has been accomplished and needs no further delay for the initial 14 days declared.

Governor Bello maintained that the state remains COVID-19 free.

He added that the COVID-19 committee set up by the state government went into action on Wednesday and took samples of the immediate family of Kabba Chief Imam and other people in the communities.

He stressed further that all the test conducted were negative saying the state was satisfied with the test conducted so far.

The governor also stated that all those involved in the Isanlu- bank robbery and police station shootout on Thursday will be apprehended and face the law.

Meanwhile, Kogi State police command on Friday said twenty-five armed robbers invaded a police station and banks in Isanlu Kogi State.

The police spokesman, DSP William Ayah disclosed this in a press statement issued and made available to newsmen.

According to him, received report of the unfortunate incident where some armed robbers numbering about 25 invaded the Isanlu town simultaneously attacked the First Bank Branch and the Police Station with AK47 rifles and dynamites to gain access to the facilities.

“During the incident, eight Police Officers lost their lives among which were two Women Police Officers while others sustained various degrees of injuries. The injured officers were taken to the hospital for treatment while the corpses were deposited at the Mortuary.

“The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations and led a team of Officers comprises of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Tactical and Operational Officers as well as Homicide team to the scene on the spot assessment to numb the area as well as to reassures the residents of the Commands’ determination to ensure their safety.

“The Commissioner of Police urged members of the public to sharpened their power of observation and report any suspicious movement or characters within and around the Isanlu area to the Police or any nearest security agencies.

“The Commissioner wishes to reassure the public that, the case will be investigated to the logical conclusion and the perpetrators will be brought to book.
