COVID-19: Contact tracing most challenging in Jigawa ― Taskforce member

A member of the Jigawa State COVID-19 taskforce committee and state team leaser of DFID Lafiya programme in the state, Dr Abdullahi Maiwada has described contact tracing of the COVID-19 patients as the most challenging in the prevention and control projects.

The taskforce committee member made the disclosure in his welcome address delivered during a day sensitization workshop for traditional leaders in the state on COVID-19 infection and control at Manpower Development Institute Dutse.

Dr Maiwada described contact tracing as the most difficult job experienced during the hot of the pandemic by the committee members and medical team in the state.

According to him, the medical team and the committee members had suffered a lot in tracing the contract of patients.

The DFID representative noted that “if not because of the traditional and religious leaders who tirelessly work with the committee the successes recorded would have not been achieved.”

Dr Maiwada said the success achieved by the state government on the fight against COVID-19 in the state is based on the cooperation, support and participation of the traditional and religious leaders.

He added: “Recognising your importance, role and contribution resulted in the decision of this organization (DFID) to organize this important workshop to improve your capacity in infection and control of the disease in the state.”

Maiwada maintained that the traditional and religious leaders are very important and would not be left out, pleading with them to educate their followers about the reality of COVID-19 and ensuring full compliance of all the protocols.

He said the DFID has selected five states in the country including Jigawa to support them in prevention and control of the pandemic.

In his keynote address, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammadu Sunusi directed the district heads in the five emirates to voluntarily be part of the massive mobilization and public enlightenment on COVID-19.

The emir who was represented by the senior councillor in Dutse emirate council and Galadima of Dutse, Alhaji Basiru Sunusi, said traditional leaders have a big role to play in the fight against COVID-19.
