Community to stage protest over lack of power supply since February

Published by

The people of Felele bus stop community in Lokoja will stage a protest over the lack of power supply by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) since February this year.

The community in a statement issued, on Thursday, by a concerned member of the community, Mallam Shehu Jatto, and made available to Tribune Online said when the transformer developed a fault in February, the community was asked to pay for the repair of the transformer which they did.

They added that the community reliably gathered that after the transformer had been repaired, it was moved to an undisclosed place after which the community was again asked to pay for transporting the transformer back to the community.

They added that to their surprise, the transformer was never brought back to the community and since that time they have been living in total darkness.

The concerned member said when they approached the office of AEDC in GRA Lokoja, they were not allowed to see the head of the place but rather they were informed by one of the staff that their boss is not willing to see them.

According to the community, they later visited another AEDC office where they were informed that the transformer has been moved to Abuja.

“The community paid for the repair and paid another money for AEDC to move the transformer back to us, but is sad that up till this moment they have refused to give us light. Since February up till now, we are in total darkness.

“If they don’t bring back our transformer, we are going to embark on massive protest.”

However when Tribune Online visited the office of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) situated in Lokoja to speak with the area manager, one of the staff said the manager was not around but confirmed that they are aware of the situation and already working on it.
