The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying the rumored ban on iPhones in government and state workplaces was unfounded.
The Ministry cleared the air about the news of banning Apple smartphones but did confirm that it had concerns about the security risk the device poses.
“China has not issued laws, regulations or policy documents that prohibit the purchase and use of foreign brand phones such as Apple’s,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning claimed.
“We have always been open to foreign companies and welcome them to seize the opportunities and share the fruits of China’s economic development,” Ning emphasised.
The events of the previous week saw Apple’s stock market fall by more than 6%, equivalent to over $100bn, as a result of the rumored ban the Asian nation had issued on the purchase and usage of iPhones in the workplace.
According to BBC, China is the technology giant’s third-largest market, accounting for 18% of its total revenue last year.
