National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.
His resignation was formally announced on Friday by the party through its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in a statement issued in Abuja.
According to the statement, Ganduje stepped down to attend to “urgent and important personal matters.”
In his resignation letter addressed to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) via the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Ganduje expressed his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to lead the ruling party.
“The President has directed the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, to assume the position of Acting National Chairman, pending the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party that is being summoned immediately to fill the vacancy created by the resignation,” the party stated.

Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, became APC National Chairman in August 2023 following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
During his time in office, he was credited with promoting party unity, upholding democratic values, and boosting the APC’s electoral strength.
The statement highlighted that his leadership saw “successful defections from opposition parties and legal affirmations of our leadership’s legitimacy.”
It also noted that the NEC and National Caucus had recently, in February 2025, reaffirmed confidence in his leadership.
The party thanked Ganduje for his service and wished him well in future endeavours, stating: “We pray for his good health, and success in his future endeavours.”
