Blocked section of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway reopened after accident

Published by

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has totally re-opened for vehicular movement, a section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway blocked on Tuesday morning due to an accident on the Otedola Bridge.

LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Mr Adebayo Taofiq, made this known in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday evening.

Taofiq said that the accident, which claimed a life and involved a truck laden with bags of wheat, had caused gridlock at the 7Up-Berger section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Taofiq said that LASTMA had also recovered the corpse of the accident victim – the truck conductor – under the Otedole Bridge, and handed it over to the Lagos Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.

He added that the truck had been recovered off the bridge and the trans-loading of the wheat into another truck completed.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the driver could not control the truck due to brake failure while at speed during the heavy rainfall.
