Anambra NSCDC intercepts 90,000 litres of adulterated oil, arrests four suspects

Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has arrested four suspects for dealing in adulterated Petroleum products.

The State Commandant, Mr Everestus Obiyo, while addressing journalists in Awka, on Tuesday, said that the suspects were arrested following a tipoff.

According to him, “the Anti- Vandalism Squad of the Command, headed by ACC Dennis Reuben, on the 23rd of September, 2021 at about 2200hrs, acting on a tip-off intercepted and arrested four suspects with two trucks loaded with 45, 000 litres each of Low Pour Fuel Oil otherwise known as black oil at Onitsha Owerri Road Ihiala, in Ihiala LGA of the state.”

He gave the names of the suspects to include; Mohammed Nuradden, ‘m’ aged 30 of No. 17 Makarfi Road Rigachikun town Igabi L.G.A Kaduna State, Sani Zubaru ‘m’ aged 43 of No. 7 Makere Rigachikun town, Igabi L.G.A Kaduna State, Abdullahi Lawal, ‘m’ aged 33 of Abuja Road Rigachikun town Igabi L.G.A Kaduna State and Suleman Mohammed ‘m’ aged 36 of same Abuja Road Rigachikun town gabi L.G.A Kaduna State.

“They were arrested while transporting the suspected adulterated petroleum product; Low Pour Fuel Oil otherwise called Black Oil in two branded CONOIL trucks with registration no: KANO KMC- 466- ZO and KANO- KMC- 116 – ZQ respectively.”

“Preliminary Investigation Indicates that the suspects are not licensed to deal in petroleum products, while the trucks do not have the permit to be used for conveying the commodities.

“All the suspects admitted and confessed to the various criminal roles they played in the Commission of the crime. The investigation is in progress, after which they will be arraigned in court on completion of the investigation.

“The Command calls for continuous cooperation and support from Ndi Anambra and residents alike in volunteering credible information to us towards actualizing our core mandate for which I was recently deployed to the state to sanitize the petroleum product racketeering towards building a safe environment for economic growth cum development and protection of lives and properties across the State,” Obiyo stated.

He assured of more commitment poised to rid the nation of illegal dealing in Petroleum Products which, he stressed, had so far affected the Nigerian economy negatively.
