Amotekun dismisses officers over professional misconduct

Published by

On Tuesday, the Ondo State Commander of the Security Network Agency, Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed the dismissal of three of its officers following the conclusion of an orderly room trial.

Adeleye, who confirmed the dismissal, said the officers were relieved after being found guilty of professional misconduct and have been recommended for dismissal.

According to him, “We want to encourage the good people of Ondo State to give us timely information to work for them.

We want to inform the public that we have three of the Amotekun personnel who have gone through the normal process of corps marshalling and have been dismissed today for professional misconduct.

“We will ensure that adequate punishments even after the dismissal are given to them.
The penalty of what they did was to dismiss them, and we have dismissed them accordingly.”

He maintained that the Amotekun corps in the state will not condone indiscipline or violations of human rights by its officers.

Parading seven suspected criminals arrested by men of the Amotekun, Adeleye said three of the suspects were arrested for human trafficking while four others were arrested for housebreaking.

He disclosed that men of the command are on the trail of some suspected armed robbery syndicates who invaded a community and robbed them of valuables and vehicles.

He said the men of Amotekun, who responded to the distress call by members of the community, intersected them and retrieved the car.

He said, “Out of the seven suspects we are parading today, we have three that were arrested for human trafficking cases, and we have four others that were arrested for housebreaking, and we were able to retrieve all the items stolen from their operation, which would be handed over to the rightful owners.

“Our parade today is more about sensitization; we have seven suspected criminals, and we want to inform the public that you should assist us so that we can assist you too. We recovered a vehicle that was attacked by armed bandits.

“The residents of a particular community around Akure town raised the alarm, and within a few minutes of the alarm, we were able to move in and get there.

“While trying to rescue the victim, the armed robbers who had already taken over the vehicle drove off, and we were able to retrieve the vehicle, but efforts are on to apprehend the robbers.

“While a lot of electronic equipment had been stolen from the residents of the community, we decided to manhunt around the community; this happened around 2 am and by 5 am we were able to retrieve a lot of things that were stolen.”

“This is to confirm that our response to distress calls is actually working for us in order to reduce crime to a minimum.”

He said the command will be deploying about 700 of its men across the 18 local government areas of the state to ensure the security of lives and property during the festive period.

He said, “The Easter holiday is around the corner and the end of fasting, and we know that people will travel around during the holidays.

“We will be deploying 700 officers across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State to guarantee the safety of lives and properties in the state.

“To commuters, we advise you to reduce travelling late at night and early in the morning. However, we will commence our 24-hour patrol from the end of this week to ensure safety.”
